My pick for word of the year

The doctor who I work with in cardiac rehab was recently trying to explain the reason for or origin of a patient's disease (etiology), which he said was not well known and therefore "cryptogenic". I can't tell you how many times a patient has complained that a doctor doesn't know why a problem occurs, and so they must have created the word "cryptogenic" to pacify the angry patients. I thought the word was funny. It's almost as amusing as "iatrogenic", which describes a problem caused by a doctor or by, for instance, staying in a hospital (ie. iatrogenic infection).

Incidentally, Megan often likes to play doctor with her animals. I said "Are you a veterinarian?". She said "No, YOU are a besimarian". Besimarian is my favorite invented word of the year.
