Although the deer have been less apparent than last year, we have been graced by the presence of a family of wild turkeys in our neighborhood this summer and fall. We've watched a mother and 9 babies grow up steadily and they've mostly thrived in peace, except for a few close calls while crossing roads and occasionally getting chased away by crows and hawks. We watched as a small group of 3 poults (young turkeys) broke off of the group and venture out on their own for a while. Now that we're getting late into October, the turkeys have not been around as much. Probably just as well since Thanksgiving will be just around the corner...
